Power named the 2008 Malibu as the highest ranked in Overall Initial Quality Mechanical in its class. We're located in beautiful South Orlando. Financing options are available! Good Credit, New Credit, or even Challenged Credit!

Vehicle Overview

No matter when you look, it seems a new or redesigned midsize sedan is always being introduced. Toyota's popular Camry was overhauled for 2007, and before that Ford introduced the Fusion. This year it's Chevrolet's turn as it brings out a redesigned version of its Malibu family sedan.

Available in LS, LT and top-of-the-line LTZ trim, the five-seat Malibu offers a choice of either a four-cylinder or V-6 engine and comes standard with side curtain airbags, an important safety feature. The Malibu arrives in the fourth quarter of 2007. Chevrolet General Manager Ed Peper said the Malibu will add the GM Hybrid system to its powertrain choices about three to four months after regular Malibu sales begin.

Exterior

Longer than before, the 2008 Malibu sheds the frumpiness of its predecessor with its new sheet metal; it's aggressive-looking, but not excessively so. The front end features a new grille that's bisected by a body-colored bar with the brand's bow-tie logo, much like the company's Avalanche SUV/pickup. This design has migrated rather well from truck to sedan, though the gap in the bumper below the grille clutters the look a bit.

The Malibu's raked A-pillar looks sleek in profile, but the graceful arc of the roofline is abruptly cut short at the C-pillar; that pillar's inner portion abruptly angles down — kind of like on the Acura TL — while the outer edge flows rearward where it meets the short rear deck.

Base LS models get 16-inch wheels; the LT has 17-inch rims. The LTZ, meanwhile, wears 18-inch wheels and gets front fog lights and LED taillights. V-6 models are distinguished by two chrome tailpipes. A glass sunroof with four movable panes that p the front and rear seats is optional.

Interior

One of the cabin's distinguishing elements is its scalloped dashboard. A variety of two-tone interior themes are available as a means of accenting the dash, center stack, door trim and seats. Cloth seats are standard and leather ones are available, and all Malibus have a 60/40-split folding rear bench seat. The instruments have blue backlighting, and a 110-volt power outlet is available.

Under the Hood

The Malibu's base engine is a 164-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder that teams with a four-speed automatic transmission in LS and LT trim levels but drives a six-speed automatic in the LTZ. Buyers get a significant horsepower gain by stepping up to the optional 252-hp, 3.6-liter V-6, which drives a six-speed automatic. In models with the six-speed transmission, drivers can manually change gears via steering-wheel paddles.

Safety

All-disc antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags are standard. LT and LTZ trims also come standard with GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability system and brake assist.
